The young Ernst Leuchtenthal is planning to travel to the USA for a year to study. Before he leaves, his father asks him for a meeting. Consul Leuchtenthal wants to get his son a "good" marriage before he disappears overseas. The old man has the very young, attractive Christine von Auffenberg in mind, who runs a breeding farm for chinchillas. This would fit in well with the consul's business, as he earns good money as a fur trader. Ernst is not too keen on marrying a woman his father has chosen for him, especially as he does not love Christine. In the local children's home he meets the light-blonde Marianne, and for him it is like love at first sight.

Professor Hellwig is a confirmed bachelor. He is a music historian and lives only for his passion. He has no patience for the ladies and does everything he can do drive them out of his classes by being super unfriendly. Even at home, he will only let himself be served by a man -- Sebastian. Elli Martens, a student, who has gotten to know the professor through one of his classes, wants to cure the professor of his aversion to women, because she can't stand to see someone happy (what other reason can there be?). Posing as a married woman, who lost her husband in an auto accident during their honeymoon, she shows up at Hellwig's house on a stormy evening, begging for help. Hellwig is repulsed and tries to get rid of her as quickly as possible (AMEN!).

Fritz Schmitz advertises the sea journeys of Mr. Hein Kluge using this melody. Fritz is Mr. Winkler's nephew and aside from attracting participants in these sea journeys, he's trying to get his uncle to invest 10,000 Reichsmark in Mr. Kluge's operation. And indeed, Mr. Winkler promises to make the investment, if the sea journey proves to be what he's expecting. He's hoping, by the way, to get to know "Emma", with whom he's been corresponding for quite a while now, because she put an ad out saying she wants a husband. And wouldn't you know it: without having met her except by mail, he's fallen for her! Another big condition is that Fritz not sell Mrs. Muller a ticket for this trip. On the steps, Fritz gets to know a young girl, with whom he falls in love at first sight and, without knowing her name, invites her to join the tour. And wouldn't you know it: this woman is Frau Muller's daughter. Can you guess where this is going?
