Ordinary Extraordinary Junco 2012
The Ordinary Extraordinary Junco is a documentary film project designed to engage, entertain, and inspire student and adult audiences of all backgrounds. The feature-length film (88 min.) is comprised of eight shorter video chapters (3 to 20 min. each), or “modules,” that highlight past and present biological research on one of the most common and abundant –yet amazing and diverse–groups of songbirds in North America, the Juncos. Each video chapter explores key themes in animal behavior, ecology, or evolution, and conveys the process of scientific research with high school and college science standards in mind.

The Path to Nuclear Fission: The Story of Lise Meitner and Otto Hahn 2006
A story about the life and turbulent times of Lisa Meitner and Otto Hahn, two exceptional scientists whose remarkable collaboration culminated in the discovery of nuclear fission, the division of the atom that changed the future. The show traces the development of nuclear science in the first half of the twentieth century, Meitner's early struggle for education and her quest to gain a foothold in the world of male-dominated physics, Hahn's initial research and independent discoveries, the collaborative discovery of the two scientists, as co-discoverers and the award of the Nobel Prize only to Hahn.

Waves across the Pacific 1967
"Waves across the Pacific" is a documentary featuring Dr. Walter Munk and his colleagues at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. In 1963, Munk conducted an experiment tracing the course of waves and wave energy from their origins in Antarctica to the shores of Alaska. Oceanographers had speculated for some time that Antarctic storms generate enormous waves which can be detected half-way around the globe. The experiment included development of special instrumentation to detect waves and installation of recording stations along points in the Pacific (including use of the new Floating Instrument Platform, FLIP). The experiment collected some ten million data points on tape documenting waves from 12 major storms; with computer analysis of the data, the scientists succeeded in plotting the wave climate across the Pacific.

Virus 1960
From KQED in San Francisco and the Virus Laboratory of the University of California, Berkeley, comes a distinguished series of eight half-hour programs on the nature of the virus. Prepared using a National Science Foundation grant, the series is designed to explain to the viewer some of the basic facts about viruses, those structures so essential to life and health, facts which for the most part have only been discovered in the past twenty-five years. Drawing on advanced scientific techniques such as microcinematography, electron microscopy and freeze drying, as well as on animation, large-scale models and drawings, the programs combine lectures with demonstrations to give the viewer an extremely vivid picture of this complicated topic. Particularly emphasized are facts about the virus' relation to bacterial disease, to polio, and to cancer, and new information about viruses which may not yet be generally known to students of biology or to the non-scientific public.
