Albert & Herbert was a Swedish comedy series that ran in 1974, 1976–1979, 1981–1982, an advent series and a theatre play titled Mordet på Skolgatan 15, and had a spin-off series in 1995. Albert & Herbert, which featured father and son scrap-dealers living together, was an adaptation of Ray Galton and Alan Simpsons's BBC series Steptoe and Son from the 60s and 70s. Albert was played by Sten-Åke Cederhök, and the son Herbert played by Tomas von Brömssen. During the first six episodes, Herbert was played by Lennart Lundh. The characters lived in a dilapidated wooden house in Skolgatan 15, in Haga, Gothenburg.

The story takes place during the weeks before Christmas, in the small mining town of fictitious Granhyttan in Bergslagen, Sweden. One day a suspicious couple, Signe and Orvar, arrives in the small town and retires in an abandoned hut. Nobody knows what they up to; but strange things starts to happen as Staffan finds a gold nugget while playing in a disused mine at the Kråkberget Mountain during a skiing trip with his schoolmates. Staffan believes the nugget is a part of Skarp-Erik's gold, as his grandpa had told exciting stories about. The news about the gold discovery spread quickly and Staffan and his friends are soon pursued by curious schoolmates, school staff and also the mysterious strangers. All this happens as the students are rehearsing for the nativity play before Christmas break.

When an elderly jeweler is murdered in his shop, the local police first conclude that it is another crime of the same offender, when another jeweler in the city got burglary the day before. But Sverre Sterner soon begins to suspect that completely different motives are behind the murder. The wires lead backwards in time around a putative drowning accident.
