A group of men are searching for something in the desert. Only one of them knows what they seek. The one they call the Master. Searching in the desert is a dangerous activity. In addition to the dry, bleak landscape and the unrelenting heat of the sun, the one they call the Baptist haunts the dunes. A fool who fell from believer to murderer, the Baptist is enlightened in the ways of both. The men are unsure if they are searching for god or for death.. or if both of these things are the same.
Carlos, a boy from a proletarian neighbourhood in Malaga, loses his father in an accident and his family demands that he becomes the head of the family. Carlos does not want to accept this role and the only way he can think of to avoid the situation is to lie: every morning he goes out in his father's old suit to an imaginary job. Of course, to get the money his mother asks for, he will have to feed this farce day by day. And the lie will grow as tall but as weak as a house of cards.
Every morning, during each breakfast, the Díaz family celebrates by singing of the extreme happiness they enjoy, even on those days that are sinister and stormy.
