Biography
Born in Medan. Education: graduated from high school in Medan and continued to the Faculty of Law for two years. Since elementary school, he has been interested in drama, and his introduction to film was as an extra in the production of Kuala Deli (1955) and Sungai Ular (1961). Then as a supporting role in Penjebrangan (1963) when he moved to Java. From there, he was addicted, struggling in the world of film since as a script writer, make-up artist, assistant director, assistant unit assistant, and assistant editor until becoming a director, editor, and actor. Became general chairman of KFT (1984-1987), Member of the National Film Council (1985-1987), Member of the FFI Selection Committee 7 times between 1982 and 1992. Recipient of the 1996 Professional Loyalty Award from BP2N. His work Si Ronda Macan Betawi (1978) was a nominee for the scenario and editing at the 1979 FFI. He directed the TV series Keluarga Rahmat (1990).

Set in 1896, "Tjoet Nja' Dhien" celebrates one of Indonesia's great heroes who fought for independence from the Dutch. The pious Muslim people of Aceh, a city that had flourished since ancient times as a trade port, enter into a fierce war with the Dutch. Tjoet Nja' Dhien, the widow of a rebel leader operating in Aceh in Sumatra, assumes the leadership when her husband Teuku Uma is killed in an ambush. Dhien's charismatic presence and power of survival motivate the locals to join and later continue their opposition to the Dutch. Despite personal obstacles, she remained in the thick of the struggle for ten years.

Margens then tries to rape Yanti and even causes harm to Wisnu during a race. Yanti stays faithful and waits for Wisnu’s recovery from his injuries. The colonial court sentenced Tohir harshly on 22 September 1938. The sentence is made harsher because the prosecutor, Hasan, discriminates more on Tohir’s lineage than his crime. But in fact, Tohir commits his crime out of necessity as his wife is pregnant and about to give birth. He is sentenced to hard labor in exile so when he finds out that his wife and child are dead, Tohir escapes and kidnaps Hasan’s son, Husin. He raises the son in a life of crime, but lives like a respectable man. Husin also lives a double life. He is loved by an innocent girl in the village, but in other places, he plays around with women. In his old age, Tohir becomes a drunk and then he finds out that the government has awarded Hasan for his services. He uses Husin, nicknamed Boy, to avenge himself by sending him to rob Hasan’s house. Husin fails and is sent to trial. There, while drunk, Tohir reveals who Husin really is. Hasan and his wife then welcome Husin back.
