Joyce Collins Bulifant (born December 16, 1937) is an American actress and author. In addition to recurring roles on television, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show as Marie Slaughter, she is recognized for film roles in The Happiest Millionaire and Airplane!. She was also a frequent panelist on game shows including Chain Reaction, Match Game, and Password Plus.
She has been married a total of 5 times: actor James MacArthur (m. 1958; div. 1968), actor Edward Mallory (m. 1969; div. 1974), producer/director William Asher (m. 1976; div. 1993), Glade Bruce Hansen (m. 2000; div. 2001), and actor Roger Perry (m. 2002; died 2018). She had 2 children with her first husband James MacArthur and 1 son, actor/director John Mallory Asher, with her second husband Edward Mallory. John was also adopted by her third husband William Asher.

The show was successful during its first few seasons due to the fact that the show's concept, airing unsold and unaired television pilots, was a popular concept in the 1960s. Police Story is an anthology television crime drama. The show was the brainchild of author and former policeman Joseph Wambaugh and represented a major step forward in the realistic depiction of police work and violence on network TV. Although it was an anthology, there were certain things that all episodes had in common; for instance, the main character in each episode was a police officer. The setting was always Los Angeles and the characters always worked for some branch of the LAPD. Notwithstanding the anthology format, there were recurring characters. Scott Brady appeared in more than a dozen episodes as "Vinnie," a former cop who, upon retirement, had opened a bar catering to police officers, and who acted as a sort of Greek chorus during the run of the series, commenting on the characters and plots.
