A Grand Guignolesque grotesque which happens in the dusk of one of those imaginary nights when everything is possible. The scene takes places in a village’ inn and cemetery located one next to the other: joyful and always tipsy guests from the inn continuously meet mischievous vampires who, with their jokes, bother their brothers from this world.
An eminent Belgrade physician is found murdered. The investigation reveals dark side of his character - illegal abortions and abuse of his wife. The wife's lover becomes the prime suspect. The newspaper reporter, however, starts his own investigation. Besides being a crime story, this movie in quasi-documentary fashion presents alternative cultural scene of Belgrade in late sixties.
This film is based on the engravings of Hristofor Žefarović, an 18th-century painter, engraver, writer and poet. He was exclusively engaged in copper engraving and book illustration after 1740. he engraved copper plates for his books, and printed them in the "etching-typographical workshop" of his collaborator Thomas Mesmer in Vienna. His engraving was of great cultural-historical importance to the Baroque art of the time. His style of 'bright cut' engraving was thoroughly masterly and original, specializing in the higher branches -- engraving for printing -- of the engraver's art.
