Soejima Shinobu creates stop-motion animation and sculptures that explore impermanence and fear of the unexpected, and many of her works use motifs from Asian folk stories and religious ceremonies. Shinobu spent eight years in Malaysia before receiving her B.A. from the UCL Slade School in London and B.A. in Intermedia of Fine Arts from the Tokyo University of the Arts, where she is currently working toward an M.A. in the Department of Animation. Honors include the Eriko Kimura judge's prize at Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi (2018) and an award at the Image Forum Festival (2018).
