Loneal, overwhelmed by guilt for changing the course of the original story, devises a plan to set things right. His idea involves bringing Alec and Lily closer by inviting them to a picnic in the rose garden. However, as he witnesses them together, a pang of anguish grips his heart. Alec, who has long seen through Loneal's strategy, calmly inquires about the plan. Faced with the prince's cool and composed voice, Loneal realizes he can't keep anything from the dashing Alec.
